My Triangle
“My Triangle” is the interpretation of my life that is constructed by three languages, three ways of thinking, three point of views, three worlds.
This “three” are Mandarin, English and Spanish that I use in my daily life. This three languages reflect my life journey until now: As a Taiwanese, my mother tongue is Mandarin. I speak English with my partner, who is from Barcelona. I communicate with the family of my partner, as well as the majority of society here in Barcelona in Spanish. Three languages stand for three points, if you line them up with three lines, then you get a triangle plane, I am that plane. I am wandering in that plane.
To express this idea, I collect letters from Spanish and English, characters from Chinese that share the same essence or meaning, and combine them together in one structure in which I explore, act, and live in. This is a process of self-identity building.
Those actions and visual elements that have been illustrated in each graphic are related to the meaning of that very same word-complex. I want to show you what it is like to live among three worlds.
Mi Triángulo
“Mi Triángulo” es la interpretación de mi vida que se construye a partir de tres lenguas, tres formas de pensar, tres puntos de vista, tres mundos.
Estos “tres” son mandarín, inglés y castellano que uso en mi vida cotidiana. Estos tres idiomas reflejan el viaje de mi vida hasta ahora: como taiwanesa, mi lengua materna es el mandarín. Hablo inglés con mi pareja, que es de Barcelona. Me comunico con la familia de mi pareja, también con la mayoría de la sociedad aquí en Barcelona en castellano. Tres lenguas representan tres puntos, si trazas estos puntos con tres líneas, sale un triángulo, y yo estoy en él navegando.
Para expresar esta idea, recopilo letras del español e inglés, caracteres del chino tradicional que comparten la misma esencia o significado, y los combino en una estructura en la que exploro, actúo y vivo. Este es un proceso de construir una identidad.
Aquellas acciones y elementos visuales que he ilustrado en cada gráfico están relacionados con el significado de ese mismo carácter, queriendo mostrarte como me siento al vivir entre tres mundos.
